Senior Merger Arbitrage Analyst

Paris, 75, FR

ABOUT CFM

Founded in 1991, we are a global quantitative and systematic asset management firm applying a scientific approach to finance to develop alternative investment strategies that create value for our clients.
We value innovation, dedication, collaboration, and the ability to make an impact. Together, we create a stimulating environment for talented and passionate experts in research, technology, and business to explore new ideas and challenge existing assumptions.

YOUR ROLE

We are seeking a talented Merger Arbitrage Analyst to join our Systematic Strategies team in Paris or London. In this pure research and judgment role, you will focus on sourcing and assessing M&A opportunities globally, evaluating deal dynamics, regulatory pathways, and the likelihood of deal completion.

You will translate soft, qualitative deal information into actionable investment signals for our systematic framework, working collaboratively with our quantitative team to shape how we identify and assess event-driven opportunities. You will not manage risk or trade positions directly; our systematic infrastructure handles execution and risk management, allowing you to focus on what you do best: understanding deals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assess announced and pre-deal M&A situations globally

• Evaluate the willingness of buyers and sellers to complete transactions

• Analyse regulatory and approval dynamics across jurisdictions

• Provide views on how stocks should behave during and after deal announcements

• Translate soft, qualitative deal information into actionable investment signals for our systematic framework

• Propose trading strategies in conjunction with the quant team

YOUR SKILLS

• 5+ years of experience in M&A roles: investment banking, private equity, hedge fund event-driven desk, or M&A sales

• Proven ability to form and defend strong conviction views on deal outcomes

• Strong understanding of regulatory approval processes and deal mechanics gained through direct experience on live transactions

• Comfortable operating across global M&A situations

• Ability to identify compelling positioning opportunities and propose original trading strategies

• Collaborative mindset suited to working within a systematic investment environment

Desirable:

• Buy-side experience in event-driven or merger arbitrage

• Familiarity with quantitative investment platforms

• Antitrust/competition law background

Not required:

• Risk management

• Portfolio construction

• Trading execution experience

• Individual P&L management
